Thieves Target Local Venues In Early April Break-ins
Three break-ins occurred last week and an attempt at Bob's Grocery, RCMP Police report. The StarLite Drive-In, arena complex curling rink section, and a CNR freight car were entered on April 12 to 18. At the Drive-In an exterior glass door was pried open, loot included chocolate bars and bubble gum, with a failed cigarette machine entry. A CNR yard car had a door seal broken, bread and oranges stolen. Bob's Grocery barred entry with trim pried but secured inside. Break-ins reported April 13 at 8:45 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. by store owner Mr. Jackson. Continued on page 4.

Ewasiuk Faces Eleven Charges In Magistrate Court
Leo James Ewasiuk of The Pas appeared on eleven charges including forgery uttering and fraud at a Manitoba magistrate court. He pleaded not guilty to ten counts and was remanded to April 21. A further charge surfaced from the Rural docket after a court break. The defense seeks a provincial funded mental examination in Winnipeg but is blocked by bail terms.

Acquittals in Break-In Case At Local Court
In Magistrate's Court Wednesday morning April 7 three local men Eugene and Ernest Fortan and Dennis Morrissette were acquitted on charges connected to a January 14 break in at Thompson Supply. A gas tank yard was entered and several gallons of gasoline stolen with a garage door pried open. Continued on page 16.

First Drug Charges Laid In The Pas
Four local residents including a 18 year old, three adults and a juvenile, face cannabis possession charges after March 25 raids at International Apartments Cathedral Avenue. Sargeant Ken Elliott said one suspect also faced a federal drug act charge. McLeod appeared in court and was fined 200 dollars. Juvenile detainee not yet in juvenile court.

Flooding Damps The Pas Caused by Burst Basins
Heavy rains last Friday flooded sections of The Pas with the worst at Second Street and LaRose Avenue near Carroll Motors. Bigelow of Carroll Motors said a small sports car plowed into foot-deep water and customers needed hip waders to view west car lot inventory. New mining townsite planned near Leaf Rapids
A townsite for about 3 500 people will be developed near Sherritt Gordon's Rutland Lake mining properties near Leaf Rapids on the Churchill River. The plan, released by Premier Ed Schreyer and Mines Minister Sidney Green with Sherritt Gordon leaders, taxes all surface property in the townsite like other businesses. The project aims for housing for 600 single-family and duplex units, 165 multiple-dwelling units, space for 100 single men, and associated commercial firms, with first residents by year end.
