The town engineer says spring run off from muskeg and a new subdivision has caused water buildup in the Pea West ditch. Crews pumped water from ditches into sanitary manholes to protect homes as weather pushed late hours. A larger crew and shift differentials are planned for later spring.
Bruce Dunlop chosen as Liberal candidate for Churchill in the next federal election by a travelling nomination convention. The Pas resident, a consulting geologist, led the slate with Don Orchard and others in attendance. The tour spanned Nelson House Lynn Lake Churchill Flin Flon The Pas Thompson with Senator Gil Molgat as guest speaker and balloting at each stop.
The Lions Club of The Pas sponsors a MISS MERMAID QUEEN candidate for the 1972 Flin Flon Trout Festival in Flin Flon from June 30 to July 9. The crowning occurs July 8 with gifts and a Winnipeg visit for the Queen and two princesses. Negotiations seek a Winnipeg and Minneapolis Aquatennial appearance. candidate must be 18 and single.
Two fires struck The Pas targeting hotels in three weeks. At Gateway Hotel Room 28 the blaze was contained to the room with mattress and bedding damaged. At Avenue Hotel on Fischer Avenue the fire began on the third floor top of stairs. smoke spread though damage was limited and extinguishers suppressed most of the blaze.
Premier Ed Schreyer appoints Ron McBryde as Manitoulin’s first full time Commissioner of Northern Affairs with duties aiding other ministers in natural resource programs. Russell Doern becomes Minister of Public Works. Cabinet changes take effect Monday, April 17.
The Kelsey Recreation meeting revealed a lack of a Minor baseball executive for the upcoming season. Recreation director Jerry Ferguson plans a registration period April 24 to 28 and intends to contact about 40 interested individuals ahead of a April 20 meeting.
The 37th annual Music Festival runs Monday to Friday April 24 to 28 at MBC Auditorium. Speech, dance, vocal and instrumental items feature 750 participants. The Grand Concert Friday at 7 30 p m in the Auditorium showcases winners and awards.
Sister Jeannette Monseau, administrator at St. Anthony's Hospital in The Pas since 1969, was honored with an all‑expense paid return ticket to the Holy Land for five or six weeks. She called it a dream come true after receiving the gift at a reception and banquet last Thursday evening.
The Pas Town Council receives three safety requests from the Children’s Safety Committee chaired by Gerry McKinney. They call for CF I playrooms in apartment blocks fire extinguishers on properly mounted fire equipment garbage collector routing to improve driver and pedestrian visibility behind CF I blocks. McKinney notes council already acts on winter safety measures and praises the council appointees for continued safety work.
