Outlook Tax Rate 34 Mills Fixed by Council

At Monday night’s council meeting a bylaw fixed the 1918 tax rate at 34 mills on the dollar. The rate allocates to municipal purposes 12 mills for school purposes 10 mills and for public revenue or patriotic purposes 2 mills. Last year’s total rate was 37 mills, and with a 10 percent reduction in assessment on all lots the current taxation will be somewhat lower than last year.

Ottawa announced that Canada will send a military unit to Siberia to aid Russians and Czechs in opposing the Central Powers. The force will be about 4000 strong, with a fuller statement promised later.

The Outlook town council met Monday with Mayor Evans and Councillors Reid Ne Kennedy Cowan present. Minutes from the last regular meeting were adopted. Bills were approved as read including Reid Hardware Co. supplies and Western Municipal News. A business tax license of ten dollars was mandated for nonpayers. Bylaw No 111 setting the 1918 mill rate received three readings.
