John W. Burgess of Canyon, can employe at the Amarillo Army Air Field, died suddenly this morning. Mr. Burgess left his home and walked to the place where he met his ride to Amarillo, becoming ill there. He was rushed to an Amarillo hospital by ambulance but died soon after arriving here. A resident of Canyon for five years, he had previously lived in Swisher County for 35 years. He was 57 years old. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Sally Burgess; four sons, Sidney P. Burgess of the Navy at San Diego, Edmund C. Burgess of the Navy, stationed in North Carolina, Pvt. John Winston Burgess who is in the South Pacific, and Garland w. Burgess of Canyon; two daughters, Miss Annie Lula Burgess, Hobbs, N. M., and Miss Nina Estelle Burgess of Carlsbad; three brothers, Charlie Burgess of Abilene, Jewell D. Bur gess of Hereford and Porter Bur gess of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Raymond of Tulsa and Mrs. Alice Vanderslice of Corpus Christi; his mother, Mrs. Sally Burgess of Cor pus Christi; and one granddaugh ter. Funeral arrangements are pend ing the arrival of the sons in the Navy. Plans will be announced by Griggs-Warren Funeral Home of Canyon.
