And whereas this meeting has been convened in part for that object, Therefore *Resolved, That ws repose the utmost confi-dence in the democratic administration of Mar- a tin Van Buren and that we yield a hearty sup- t| port to the principles which he avows and prac- t tices in his official station. oResolved, That in Col. R. M. Johnson the * Vice President of the United States, we recog- c nize to the fullest extent,‘the Hero, the Pstri- p ot, and the Sage,—a true son of Democracy—a Soldier with genuine Certificates of bravery of j the very best kind and in great abundance. tlResolved, That as democrats we hail with m pride and pleasure, the prospect of a visit a- n mong us of the true Hero of the Thames, and b that we will use our best efforts to give him a n hearty welcome to old democratic Sullivan. tiResolved, That we recognize as cardinal P points in the democratic creed the following prin- li ciples, viz: uncompromising opposition to a national Bank—a permanent divorce of the Govern- jj ment from the Banks, or other Corporations of ^ the country—No appropriation of money for in- c ternal improvements from the U. S. Treasury o except for works strictly national and of abso- h lute necessity—No tariff for protection—A sim- tl pie, frugal, and constitutional administration of e the affairs of Government—No more taxes to be levied and collected of the people than may be found necessary for the immediate wants of the P Government—No national debt—No large sur- g plus if possible to prevent it—No union of church 0 and State or any approach thereto—No repeal ol of the naturalization laws—No sedition or gag laws,—No legislation giving to the man who p lives by his wits and his wealth any advantage ci over the man who lives by his labor—No dis- tl tinctions in society except such as virtue and vice may make necessary. ClResolved, That as democrats we view with Bt some degree of jealousy and concern the evident e effort of a majority of the wealthy and educated T to array themselves against the great body of j; the laboring classes of Society ; well knowing tlt; that a minority with wealth and education at c command will have powerful weapons to wield b against the majority in bringing that minority o' into power. °Resolved, That all appeals to the passions for e the purpose of exciting popular prejudices; dis- p regarding and losing Bight of the true issue now B made between the two great parties in this coun- u try, is but one of those desperate and illiberal a: efforts to obtain power, which must fail if light fs and truth can but exercise their sway. eResolved, That we regret the late defeat of tl our worthy and talented fellow citizen Gen. T. 01 A. Howard in his effort for the Gubernatorial 61 chair; believing him pre-eminently qualified to re- lieve the State from the financial embarrassments ® into which it has been plunged by mis-manage- j, ment and mis-rule—Our confidence in his tal- 8j ents and integrity remains undirninished. a!On motion the following gentlemen were ap- ci pointed Delegates to the Bloomfield Convention: tlR.
