Woe have w start the column + off this week with a couple of corrections — you maybe won't believe this - but even corres pondents make mistakes. First of all Fred Tarrant who celebr ates his birthday on Wednes day, is NOT in the Personal Care Home in Birtle, nobody is yet as the building is not quite ready for occupancy and beca use of the long list of applicants it is undecided who will or will not be a guest there. Mr. Tarrant is in Birtle and District Hospital. Second error — It was reported to us in good faith that Herb Wotton’s sister from Ore gon and his brother from Van couver were visiting with him, apparently their holiday was delayed and so far they have not arrived in Foxwarren but hope to do so in the near future. Hope these explanations clear up a few queries I received. Some days??? We aren't just too bright. Shelley Ryan left last week to begin a course at Bible College at Regina. Bob and Floyd Gadd are attending the same college. 'A pleasant profitable year to all three of these young folks. Elton McCredie of Calgary accompanied by his grandaug hter, Susan Waulkie of Olds, Alberta have been visitors this past week with George and Bernice Graham and Janice. Elton, one of our native sons who moved to Calgary many years ago has been renewing old acquaintances in the district while Susan, who, is very interested in her “‘roots'” has been taking notes on the stories of “‘the good old days” Other old timers who visited in the district this week were Edgar and Anne Dunfield of Brandon. We are glad to report that Danny is feeling some better after having had a su mmer of ill health. Classified Act — Used tomb stones for sale. Chery and Bill Lovett of Kansas spent a couple of days with Jack and Selly Talbot this past week. Bill and Cheryl came up from North Dakota where they are custom combining when the weather permits. Ma ny folks will remember the Lovetts who with the rest of their family have done custom combining in the Russell, Bin scarth and Foxwarren areas in '76 and ‘77. Bill and Cheryl came up from York, N.C. on their motorcycle. Doris and Lawrence Pizzey were weekend visitors to Bran don to visit with Lawrence's sister, Ethel Watt of Binscarth who is quite ill and is staying with her daughter and son: law; “Dorothy and Les White, ‘Our very best wishes Ethel. ‘The Roy Freeman family ‘spent the weekend with Roy's folks at Killarney and attended the wedding of Rog and Freida Goodard's son. Visitors with Roy and Linda and family last week were the David Cook family of Gilliam. Dean and Jean Falloon are visiting in Saskatoon, the guests of their son and daughter-in-law Glen and Debbie Falloon. ‘Anybody who brags about what he is going to do tomorrow probably did the same thing ‘yesterday. ‘We are sorry to report that Sophie Paska is again a patient in Russell District hospital. Best thes from all your friends and neighbours, Sophia. Allso get well soon’ wishes to Barbara Gadd who is a patient in the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg. Ray took her in by ‘car on Friday. Weekend visitors with Merv ‘and Margaret Gadd were Ma y's brother Reg Young, his wife Lelia and son Barry. Thelves are on the loose again in the district. Theivory and vandalism must be two of the most despicable crimes there are and the people who commit them should be auto matically sentenced to about two years of hard labor for the victims. The latest victim at Foxwarren is Ted Widdicombe, who had all his farm tools, in fact anything they could carry, stolen from his farm north of town a week ago. At the latest report the characters had not been apprehended by the pol- We would wonder a little about the doctor who prescribed wrong laxative for his patient s and then ordered him to stay in bed for a few days. Wally Lazenby of Winnipeg has been visiting with his mother and sisters this past week on his way home from a holiday with his son Terry and family at Medicine Hat. Aileen and Alf McFarlin had ‘Margaret and Elgin Farrell, Kathy and Harvey Heise and Ken McFarlin visit with them ‘on the weekend. The kids all came home to help Mom and Pop install a new chimney on their house but Saturday proved to be too windy a day for work ‘on a roof top so they were forced to complete the job on Sunday. However, the better the day, the better the deed. Alice and Louis Martinet had as met visitors on the weekend Mr. and Mrs. Ron Sharp of Ottawa. Mrs. Sharp is the former Myrtle Fleming, who was born and raised at Foxwar ren. The Sharps were on their way to visit their son at Fort McMurray. George and Anne Lavallee spent the weekend in Winnipeg and at St. Ambrose where George was an attendant at his brother Roy's wedding, on Sa turday. Anne's sister, Rose Carver of Grandview with her family was down to keep an eye on the Lavellee kids while their Parents were away. WHERE IS OUR WEED IN SPECTOR???— It seems to me that every summer our Foxwa ren residents ask this same question and every year we never see him and he must never see us because the weeds on the vacant lots in this village are enough to make any self respecting weed inspector call in the milita. Why can’t some thing be done about this situa tion that is becoming worse ‘every year. Birtle Rural Council ‘own many of these lots that are vacant and a real eyesore in an otherwise beautiful little vill age. The U.P R. right of way is another mess and with thistles having such a wonderful grow ing season this year the condi tion is worse than usual if that is possible. Surely some of these folks who claim they can’t find work and are living on social assistance could be given a few of the proper tools and asked to keep these unsightly lots at least kept down to the point where the weeds would not go to seed and pollute every lawn and garden in town. Mr. Weed Inspector — if you do exist there are a lot of people in this town and district who would like an explanation and some AC TION. Quote of the week: Never stumble over something behind you.
