The appointment of Scott A. Hutchinson as Maine General Manager of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Com pany, effective Sept. 16, was an nounced today. He will succeed Claude H. Tozier, who has served as Maine General Manager since May 1, 1950, and who has accept ed the appointment of traffic su perintendent for Maine. Mr. Hutchinson, who will make his headquarters in Port land, comes to Maine from Bos ton, where for about a year he has held the position of plant op erations engineer at the general office of the telephone company. He is no stranger to Maine, how ever, since he lived in Litchfield as a boy, attended school in Lew iston, and still maintains the fam ily homestead at Litchfield as a Summer home. He has had a wide and varied experience in the company's plant department, which is re sponsible for building, installing and maintaining telephone equip ment. He started work for the company as a cable splicer's help er in Fitchburg, Mass., in 1921.
