Placer Hills chief offers sage fire safety adviceOn a recent Monday, approximately 35 residents of the Meadow Vista area attended a presentation by Placer Hills Fire Chief Ian Gow. He did an excellent job of informing us of the fire danger in our area, how to be prepared to minimize loss of property and people in case of fire, local evacuation routes, and how the tactics of fire suppression work in general.Once we learned that the State Office of EmergencyServices identified our area as a “very high threat’' area, he had our undivided attention.Chief Gow distributed a “Citizen’s Guide to Fire Safe Planning and Resource Conservation” brochure which was jointly published by the Placer County Fire Safe Alliance and the Gold Country Media. I’d recommend that everyone get a copy.In addition, brochures from the local chapter of the American Red Cross were also available. Those covered emergency preparedness, evacuation kits, and even how to prepare for emergencies if you have pets. Copies of those, and others, may be obtained from Red Cross at 457 Grass Valley Highway. Thanks to Diane Young who organized the evening at the Methodist Church. Kudos to the chief and all of the firefighting personnel in our area.Pat Ferguson Meadow Vista
