Station WINXTo Operate From CampusA.U.’s lightning rod has a new job. It will take over part time duties as the aerial for tho booster station of WINX, Washington*® newest commercial radio station,Located in a new brick building adjacent to the Boiler House to the chimney of which tho lightning rod is attached, the booster station will assure better reception for northwest Washington, In a radical departure from accepted radio practice, this station will be connected with the main 250-watt downtown station only by air,A sensitive, highly directional, receiving set, to be located near Ham* ilton House, will pick up the downtown broadcast and feed it to the 50 watt booster station from which it will be rebroadcast. The technical problem which the engineers believe they have surmounted is the difficulty of keeping the receiving apparatus from picking up the signals of the nearby booster station. The solution is the employment of a directional antenna which will not pick up any signals broadcast at right angles to it.According to Mr. H, E, Walter, University Business Manager, the University will have no connection with the station except that it has leased them the ground and will sell them light, heat and power.
