MONTREAL (CP) — Last season it took teams from the National Hockey League's West Division 13 games to win two contests from their established East Division opponents. However, the expansion divi sion opened this season on a dif ferent note and in weekend ac tion the West won two of three interlocking games played, with Chicago Black Hawks falling victim on two of them. The Hawks, sixth in the East last season, found themselves off to an undistinguished start for this one as they were dumped 7-2 by the Blues in St. Louis Saturday night and lost 2- 1 to Oakland Seals at Chicago Sunday. In the other interlocking game, Montreal Canadiens, de fending East Division and Stan ley Cup champions, started where they left off last season by thumping Los Angeles Kings 5-1 here Saturday, extending their undefeated string at home to 24 games. Canadiens last lost in Mont real Jan. 23, 1969, when Oakland won 5-3. Since then Montreal won 22 games, including seven playoff contests last spring, and tied another two games. POCKET SETS PACE Henri Richard, Montreal's 33- year-old centre, was the spark that set Canadiens afire against the Kings, as he scored two goals and assisted on another. Richard, starting his 15th sea son with Montreal, shares the early lead in the NHL scoring race with two former Canadiens now playing for St. Louis, de fending West Division cham pion, Al McDonald and Phil Goy ette also have three points, McDonald with two goals and one assist and Goyette with one goal and two assists. Keith McCreary of Pittsburgh Penguins, rookie Gerry Pinder of Chicago and Mike Laughton of Oakland each scored twice in one game. Nineteen other play ers also have two points. The first shutout of the young season went to goalie Cesare Maniago of Minnesota North Stars. Maniago, who recorded only one shutout in 64 games, last season, Saturday blanked Philadelphia Flyers 4-0 at home. Marc Tardif, a junior gradu ate coting a try at left wing this season with Montreal, doesn't appear in the scoring statistics issued by the league today. However, Tardif finds himself as penalty leader after only one pro game. He has 16 minutes, including a 10-minute miscon duct for words he had with ref eree Bill Friday Saturday.
