Harris, editor of the Missouri Valley Times for many years, died o.t hia homo in this city this morning: at 8 o’clock, after an illness of a. few days. Friday he was taken to hi# lied and his condition grew rapidly worse .until death came this morning. . Within the week Mr. Harris had furnished editorial matter for his newspaper and seemed as vigorous as usual. He was 0 veara old the 21st of last July.Bom In 1821, Kr. Harris has -witnessed the development in science and industry of tlie most wonderful years in the world’s history. He was admitted to the bar in early manhood, and in the ‘50s. was county judge of Audubon county. During the civil war he represented Harrison county In the general assembly. has always been influential in the councils of the dera--oeratic party in western Iowa, and, twice served as a delegate to the demo-crate national convention. He has-served two terms as mayor of Missouri. Valley. He was a candidate for lieutenant governor with Judge Mason and candidate for congress of the Ninth district against Judge Becd.Mr. Harris came to Iowa in 1854. He . engaged in the newspaper publishing [ business in 1863, and since that time has published the Guthrie County i Ledger at Fanore.. la.; the Harrlsonian at Missouri Valley, the Kansas Democrat at Independence, Kan.: the Audubon County Defender at Bxira, la.; the Capsheaf at Atlantic, la., and the Missouri Valley Tirnes. at Missouri Valiev.' Mr. Harris’ wife died many years ago. Ten children were bora to them.Jndjre Harris is one of the oldest Odd Fellows and one of the oldest Masons in the state, having been a member of those organizations for more than 50 years.
