Party of Four From Wes tern Trip—Joe Pettus’ Expe rience. Messrs. W. P. Lawrence, Chas. Logs don, ‘A. S. Mayes and Joe Pettus, who left Springfield two weeks ago, on prospecting tour of the West, have re turned home, ey visited several States While gone and saw some fine country in their travels and were much pleased with their time. Mr. Lawrence said that while they were much disap point with some portions of Okla homa, they were much pleased with the territory altogether, and especially that part contingent to Oklahoma City, which was as fine try as they had ever seen. The trip was not without its amusing incidents and Megers, Lawrence and Logsdon are relating gone on Mr. Pet tus Which happened early on the trip. The train had sit a small station at Arkansas to ive the passengers time for lunch and Mr. Pettus had got ten interested in a pie to the extent that he didn't hear the conductor’s “‘all aboard,’ and when his face and the pie had parted company he found that the train had gone. He then dis covered for the first time that he was coatless, hatless and friendless, his friends and that portion of his wearing apparel having departed with the train. The next stop of the train was fifty miles distant and the other train was due for several hours. Then his troub les began. A show had recently been to town and the natives thought he was the part that got loose.He suc ceeded in persuading the telegraph op erator to let him get close enough to give him a m Then the’ wires got busy em [the air that Mr. Pet tus and hisantry llike the romance in ‘the book, pity and forever more eccnited fter a long, heartrend ing and painful separation. it after that it was im possible to get Mr. Pettus in the rear coaches for rear train might get that every time the Mall aboard he pinched himself to see if he was there.
