Robert Rantoul, Jr., addressed his party at Bangor in a labored speech, from which we extract the following paragraph :“The tariff, gentlemen, is a system which makes the rich richer and the poor poorer. Yes, gentlemen, I will give you an illustration : this tariff is the very system that raised Abbott Lawrence FROM a poor nor to be worth his millions of dollars*'
