(By Scoutmaster LeRoy) Wednesday evening of last week the local troop committee met at the hardware store in the balcony and held a regular business session. It was decided to add more members to the troop committee and get organ ized under a troop committee plan that is very successful over the country. Names of scout fathers and others that would promote scouting were suggested and it was decided to increase the number to twelve mem bers. Those who were chosen were E. 0. Lee, Floyd Pinkerton, Kohler Betts, W. Campbell, Art Douglas, B. B. Richards and Ralph Singer. After considerable discussion it was de cided to adjourn and meet again Fri day evening with the entire commit tee before definitely adopting the new plan as outlined by the scout master. The troop committee meeting held Friday evening last week at B. B. Richards office was attended by the following members of the commit tee: B. B. Richards, C. L. McFadden, Fred Radtke, E. C. Rogers, W. C. Campbell, Art Douglas, C. C. Steph ens, and Scoutmaster LeRoy. The meeting was called together at 8 p. m. by chairman Stephens, after the usual preliminaries of the form al opening the business of organiz ing the troop committee into sub committees was taken up. It was decided to get the best results that there should be three groups, namely Routine, Activities, and Standardiza tion. The routine committee com posed of O. O. Stephens, B. B. Rich ards and Fred Radtke, represents the local troop on the Blue Mountain Council, supervises troop business, finances, records and troop property, and directs schemes for community service and raising finances. The activities committee of which Art Douglas is chairman and E. O. Lee, Ralph Singer, Kohler Betts and Bert Logsdon as members to direct troop instruction for special subjects, su pervises and promotes troop camping hiking, games, contests, rallies, physi cal training, and scout activities. The standardization committee of which C. L. McFadden is chairman and Wm. Campbell, Floyd Pinkerton and E. C. Rogers are members, direct and inspect uniforms, equipment, troop formations, troop equipment and headquarters, inspect troop camps, supervise technique instruc tion, preparation for examinations, observance of scout regulations and decide problems of discipline. This committee also sits on the Court of Honor, and awards badges. B. B. Richards was elected chair man of the Court of Honor, and Fred Radtke troop treasurer. The question of the hike that was taken last Saturday came up and the trip was planned out and sanc tioned by the activities group. The committee decided that as many as could should attend the Court of Honor session at Walla Walla Tues day evening. Arrangements were made to take all the boys that want ed to go over in cars. Plans for a week-end camp were discussed and are under way. The next hike to be taken by the troop was discussed and decided upon. It will be to Thorn Hollow by truck and then hiking up Buckaroo canyon for the day. ©. L. McFadden is secretary for the committee. The item of the local quota for the Blue Mountain Council came up and after discussion of means of raising it the plan offered by the Local Legion Commander was accepted. They of fered to donate the hall and the date that they had planned for a dance to the men for the occasion. Or the Legion would put the dance on and make a donation to the council. It was decided to put the dance on by by the troop committee and the pro ceeds to go to the council and sum mer camp expenses. The boys have no connection with the dance and have no responsibilities whatsoever for the dance nor do they receive the direct benefit of the money though it comes back in the way of the summer camp and sup port of the scout executive and Blue Mountain council. Tickets are being sold and all ar rangements being done by the men and they solicit your patronage at the dance. The impetus given to the local troop by the new organization of the troop committee was splendidly dem onstrated Tuesday evening when there was more than sufficient cars to take all the boys to Walla Walla for the Court of Honor session there. The boys will have all the support they need now and scouting should go ahead according to schedule. The hall was cleaned up Saturday morning, and rearranged so as to make more room for the meeting room as well as enlarge the recrea tion room. It will be set off so we can have a basketball as well as volleyball court. After cleaning the hall the boys loaded into Art Douglas’ truck and went up Wild Horse creek eight miles, cooked their dinner over the fire then headed in two patrols over the hills for a hike. When the younger patrol returned along to wards dusk they were not ready to load into the truck as were the others so they started hiking down the road and when the truck passed them they still refused to ride and walked the entire distance to Athena, eight miles besides the hiking they had done in the afternoon. The boys that came back on the the truck went down to the coal yards and loaded up almost a win ters supply of coal for the hall and put it in a nice bin prepared for it at the Scout Hall. Then they went down to Howard Reeders and got the patrol locker that his patrol is to use and brought it up and placed it along side of the other locker at the hall that will take care of the sled, bow and arrows, flags and poles, bats and other troop property. Lets have every scout and cab out to the next meeting Tuesday evening and get our troop to where there isn't any better in the Council.
