MELBOURNE, Wednes day.Some trade unions are considering placing a ban on al South African gioods im ported into Australia as a protest against the banish ment of a woman union offi cer o in South Africa this week because of her union Betevities. The Victorian secretary of the Meat Industries Em ployees’ Lnion, Mr. G. See laf, said today his union had sent a telegram of protest in the South African delega tion at present attending the Commonwealth Parliament ary Association conference. The banishment of Mrs. Elizabeth Mafeking, president of the African Food and Canning Workers' Union and mother of 11 children, was announced earlier this week by the South African Gov ernment “because it would be iurious to peace and order if she is allowed to stay at her home in Paarl.” Mrs. Mafeking was ban hed to a remote area of Northern Cape Province and it was reported she would be allowed only £ 2 a month for subsistence. Mr Seelaf said today his union might ask the Mel bourne Trades Hall Council to instruct unions to ban all South African goods import ed into Australia in protest.
