Louis Murphy, Democratic candidate for U.S. sen ator from Iowa, pledges himself to support measures that will bring back to the people of Iowa their share in America. He will support the following measures: (1) Currency increase to restore commodity prices. (2) Drastic government economy. (3) Reciprocity tariff treaties for the benefit of agriculture. Murphy is a powerful figure, fearless in his utterances on public affairs. He will not be bound by any political group. The leadership of the Republican party has turned deaf ears to the appeals for help of the debt-ridden farmers and business men. Louis Murphy will give his very best efforts toward repre senting Lowa. A. C. Willford, Democratic candidate for con gressman, Third lowa district, if elected, will work for a reduction of overhead costs, doing away with unnecessary bureaus, commissions and special privi leges, and the repeal of the Smoot-Hawley tariff bill. He also stands for the repeal of the eighteenth amend ment, but is for true temperance. Herring’s Tax Program Is Sound Mr. Herring proposes a drastic change in the gov ernment of Iowa, a program that will save millions of dollars in taxes each year. He pledges himself to work for a complete reorganization of the state gov ernment, putting it on the same basis that a farmer or business man would insist upon in their own business. Mr. Herring would substitute for the over fifty board and commissions now existing in Town, nine great departments of government as follows: Depart ment of Finance, Agriculture, Registration and Educa tion, Labor, Mines and Minerals, Public Works and Buildings, Public Welfare, Public Health and Trade and Commerce. This would divide the state's affairs a long natural administrative lines, replacing the present system which abounds in sinecures, overlapping duties and opportunities to evade responsibility. Millions are wasted by lack of system in state administration costs in Iowa each year. Herring has a remedy that would substitute business efficiency for political expediency. FRANKLIN D.
