Twinting relinquishes command to Brig. Gen. (Maj. Gen. selectee) Gordon E. Fornell.Twinting has been selected to command the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards Air Force Base, CA.Fornell, who is scheduled to pin on his second star at the end of this month, is presently special assistant for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Modernization matters, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Research. Development and Acquisition, headquarters USAF, Washington, D.C.Fomell was bom in Chicago on Sept. 18,1986 and graduated from high school in Des Plaines, IL, in 1954. After graduating from Michigan State University in 1958 with a degree in mechanical engineering and a commission as a second lieutenant through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program, he entered flight training and completed F-86L training in June 1960. Next he entered B-52 combat crew training and from December 1960 until July 1965 served as a B-52 crew member.Fornell then attended the USAF Test Pilot School at Edwards and was subsequently assigned to the Bomber Branch,Office of the Deputy for Flight Test, Aeronautical Systems Division, Wright-Pattersons Air Force Base, Ohio. There he served for almost two years as a test pilot conducting systems tests on a wide variety of aircraft.Fomell is a command pilot with more than 6,000 flying hours in more than 40 different types of aircraft and also holds the basic parachutist badge.Gen. Twinting’s upcoming assignment as commander of the world-famous Air ForceFlight Test Center places him at the pinnacle of a test pilot's career ladder. After entering the aviation cadet program and completing flight training in February 1953, he served tours as an F-86 fighter pilot. After these tours he was selected to attend the Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards and served as a test pilot until 196L Next he attended the Aerospace Research Pilot School, also at Edwards.Ueneral Twinting became commander of Eglin's Armament Division in August1983.
