Highway 34 Now Open: Dedication On June 7The Iowa State Highway Commission officially opened U. S. Highway 34 last Friday with ribbon-cutting ceremonies scheduled for Friday, June 7.The opening of the two east-bound lanes on 34 marked the completion of the 7 1/2 mile segment of 34 which stretches from near the intersection of Highways 34 and 275 to Interstate 29. The price tag on the four lane expressway which skirts the southern edge of Glenwood is estimated at $4 million.The dedication, of the highway will take place at 2 p.m. on June 7 with Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice-President Dave Snow serving as Master of Ceremonies. The Glenwood Community High School Band will providea musical prelude to the ceremonies and then play the national anthem.Snow will proceed with the opening remarks and introductions and then Stephen Garst, the vice-chairman of the Iowa State Highway Commission, will officially dedicate the highway. Chamber President Lloyd Baiiks will ex*-press an appreciation to those involved in the project and Glenwood Mayor Harold Radford will make the closing remarks. The GCHS Band will then conclude the program.The local Chamber of Commerce will host an informal luncheon for Highway Commission officials on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
