The Mount Dora Hurricane Athletic Boosters elected new officers at their last meeting of the 1975/76 sports year, earlier this month, Leo Murphy will serve as president, Bob Wilson as vice president, Mrs. Leo Murphy as secretary and Mrs. Jo Jean Deak as treasurer. The club helped fund athletic needs in the Mount Dora schools this past year from money raised through memberships and business contributions and from Booster projects such as Christmas tree sales, a plant sale and a Booster Faculty basketball game. The Booster Club sponsored three separate sports recogni tion banquets this year, ending with spring sports last Friday night, to provide all athletes proper recognition. Booster funds were used to buy trophies, championship patches and to pay for the athletes’ meals at the banquets. Next year's athletic programs will benefit from new warm ups for boys’ and girls‘track, a tennis ball pitching machine, kickboards and a timing clock for swim teams and a summer basketball clinic--all made possible with funds generated by this year's club. Even the cheerleaders will benefit, when they show off their shiny new megaphones next fall. Outgoing officers thanked members for their hard work and dedication which contributed to making the past year a suc cess. They are Jim Knauss, president; Frank Richey, vice president; Carla Knauss, secretary; and Peggy Crunk, treasurer. In a final joint message, they urged area residents to support Mount Dora athletics by becoming members of the Hurricane Boosters when contacted for 1976/77. GIRLS' SOFTBALL Coach Linda Crawford presented the trophy for Most Out standing Player to shortstop Christine Harris. The girls' softball team finished their first season with a 9-won, 2-loss record. GALS' TRACK Coach Linda Locke presented the trophy for Most Valuable Player to Carolyn Nix. The track team had a record of 1 win and 5 losses in its initial year of competition, BOYS' ‘S'KACK--Coach wittie Poole presented Most Out standing Player awards to Franklin Jones (1), who made All- Conference, and Jeffrey Dextraze. The track team had al and 5 season this year. TENNIS--Coach Mickey Marks presented the Most Outstanding Player awards to Nancy DeWolf from the girls’ tennis team and David Griggs from the boys’ team. This was only the second year for the sport at MCHS and the girls had the only undefeated season for the school, 14-0. They were Conference champs, and Nancy went on to the state tournament. The boys' record was 9 and 6. BOOSTERS PRESENT CHECK-~Peggy Crunk, outgoing treasurer for the Mount Dora Hurricane Boosters, presented a check to MDHS athletic director Gene Bebber, representing the proceeds of fund-raising activities by the club over the past year. VARSITY BASEBALL Coach Jim Reeve presented the following awards (1-1): Golden Glove to team captain Dale Turner, best defensive player; Most Im proved Player to Buster VanDeroer; and Player of the Year to Doug Tutin. The varsity team had a 5 and 15 record, while the JV team went undefeated in league competition and was 8 and 4 overall.
