RACB 1BTWBBW TUB YACHTS AhMIC* API* MAaJA.”—These two vessels ore now eong’cd in the trial of speed which has bean ox pec tad with eo much intereat. Each yacht, with its invited guests on board, chiefly the membera of the New York Yacht Club, etarted on Wednesday afternoon, at four o'clock, from the Horae Shoe, Sandy Hook, having gone down and anchored there the night prcviouu. The agreement was to rail two hours to windward. The wind at the time of starting was from tho N. W.; but, though blowing a full soiling breese, the water was smooth. The ■tart was pretty equal. The Maria lay to windward; the America was a few rode in advance. Each maintained the same position, with little difference, for some three milee. When about to tack ehip the first timr, the Maria’s centre board (the America has nou«) scraped the eand, which impeded her course, with a delay of a few momenta in trimming her Bails. The average rate of eaiUng of the two yachts throughout the courae was ten and a half knots, very great speed for vessels close-hauled on the wind. At the expiration of the two* hours the America was some three miles ahead of (he Maria. J. C. Stevens, esq., the owner of the Maria, attributed the difference to the hindrance occasioned by the touching of her centre-board. Before seven o'clock the two yachts came to anchor at quarantine for the night, and prepared vaster-, day for a trial out at sea, the result of which la to be allowed to determine the relative capacity of these vessels. Tho yacht Cornelia accompanied them yesterday, and was so luckless as to split her foresail. A new one, however, was obtained from the city, and she goes out to sea with them.[iV. Y.
