EDMONDS—The Edmonds Cemetery on Ninth Avenue near Westgate will be dedicated on Monday, May 30, Memorial Day, in an 11 a.m. ceremony that will feature several local organizations.The city has been involved in a major restoration project since the land was deeded to Edmonds last year by the late Larry Hubbard.The property has been cleared and cleaned up, said Ruth Sater, a member of the Cemetery Commission. “The holes have been filled in and tombstones set up right,” shesaid.The service will feature presentation of the colors by several groups, including members of the Edmonds and Lynnwood Veterans of Foreign Wars.Chet Bennett, Edmonds attorney representing the late Mr. Hubbard’s estate, will give a brief history of thecemetery.Money from the Hubbard estatewill be used to continue fixing up tl e cemetery, Mrs. Sater said, includinginstalling a fence and gates.Burial lots are now for sale through the city of Edmonds, which manages the property. Mrs. Sater said there are about 1,000 lots available, plus space in an urngarden for ashes.A major job for members of theCemetery Commission has been toidentify the many unmarked graves.When volunteers began siftingthrough old records more than oneyear ago, there were between 500and 600 unmarked grave sites. About200 graves remain unidentified.Members of city pioneeringfamilies are buried in the cemetery, which dates to 1894.
