Brenda Utesch, Roxanne Benda, Jolene Lockwood, Lori Bernard and Lori Miller have won the right to participate in the State High School Bowling Championships in Des Moines at Merle Hay Lanes on Saturday, May 5. The girls will compete against 20 other teams in the State Finals. Congratulations, girls, for your fine showing at the District Meet. We hope you do equally as well at State. Akron places fifth By Jayne Black On Monday, April 23, the Boys’ Track Team participated in the Comet Invita tional Track Meet at Boyden Hall. Akron totaled 19 team points to place fifth out of 6 schools. Those placing individually were Vance Philips taking second place honors in the shot put, hurling it 40 ° 5 and fifth in discus throwing it 108'1 . Kevin Garvin placed fourth in the 100- yard dash in 11. In relay competition, the 880-yard relay team placed fifth clocking in at 1.45. Those participating in the event were Ed Stanley, Vance Philips, Swen Weinblom and Marlin Harris. Kevin Garvin, Vance Philips, Marlin Harris and Reid Philips took second place honors in the medley relay with a time of 3:58.7. The mile relay team, consisting of Joel Easton, Reid Philips, Swen Weinblom, and Ed Stanley placed fifth in 4:01.5. Fifth place honors also went to the 2-mile relay team with a time of 9:22.6. Those participating in this event were Joe Burdette, Robert Koch, Rick Dirks, and Eric Jelken. Other schools participating were Boyden-Hull 81% pts.; Alcester 74; Rock Valley 66; Hills-Beaver Creek 55; and Ellsworth 17%.
