WPAN-TV 53, Fort Walton's new independent television sta tion, has begun a 15-minute local news program nightly Monday- Friday at 10:15-10:30 p.m. Call ed TV 53 NEWSLINE, the pro gram offers local news coverage for Fort Walton Beach and Pensacola. The live broadcasts consist of a newsman on camera delivering short reports of the major news stories occuring throughout the Northwest Florida area. Each newscast contains on-location video taped reports from WPAN TV reporters who travel the Nor thwest Florida region from Pen sacola to Panama City. News reports are gathered from Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton Counties. TV 53 NEWSLINE is a local news program, but it may also in clude major worldwide news events of importance to area viewers. For major breaking news, TV 53 NEWSLINE will in terrupt regular programming any time of the day. TV 53 NEWSLINE also includes weather reports and coverage of local and national sports. The WPAN-TV news staff is headed by news director Glenn Austin. The Pensacola Bureau Chief is headed by Jerry O'Laughlin who comes to WPAN-TV with three and a half years of experience as the Pen sacola Bureau Chief for another station. The Fort Walton Beach news office includes two staff reporters, Chris Osburn and Lynn Qualtrough. The sports director is Jim Boyden. Support services include United Press In ternational and CNN News.
