Plane Is Down Near Tangier TANGIER, Morocco (AP) ~A twin-engined Iberia Air lines plane plunged into the aea today a few minutes be fore it was scheduled to land in Tangier and 51 of the 54 persons aboard ap parently died. A fishing vessel picked up three badly injured passengers. Three Spanish fishing boats picked up 47 bodies, said a re port from Gibraltar, across the Strait from Tangier. Among the listed passengers was Virginia Coleman, an American. Her home town was Inet given. The pilot called the Tangier control tower shortly before the crash. At that time nothing out for the ordinary was mentioned. He was supposed to call back but did not. Rescue Survivors The Spanish fishing ship Ver agen de Carmilo radioed that it had picked up the three survi vors. The Convair plane carried 49 passengers and five crew members. Iberia officials said it was believed the 49 passengers aboard included 36 Swedes, 11 Germans and two Britons. The Convair had flown from Malaga, a mecca for Swedish tourists on the southern coast of Spain. It was preparing to land at Tangier, on Morocco’s north ern coast. The Spanish trawler Virgen de Carmilo gave the alert soon after that the plane had dropped into the sea about three miles off Cap. Espartel. The trawler reported later it had picked up three survivors and that they had been burned. Area Searched Three other Spanish fishing boats and a Moroccan coast guard cutter were searching the area. The 11-year-old boy told Houston sheriff's deputies his mother has brutally beaten him for the past year and once burned him with a hot iron. His mother says, “he’s mean, just plain mean.
