‘Tis night Yet darkness only for a time obscures the dawn. Death claimed a well known woman of this vicinity, Wednesday in the person of Mrs. Maud Matthews, wife of John Matthews who lived east of town and northwest of Burns City. Mrs. Matthews had been a sufferer from goitre for over a year and was taken to the Eastman hospital at In dianapolis about three weeks ago. An operation became necessary which was performed Wednesday about 9 a. m. and from which she never recovered, passing away about 11 o'clock. The body was brought here Thursday morn ing on the early train and lay in state at the residence of Geo. D. Abraham’s yesterday and today. Mrs. Matthews was born in Oatsville, Ind. and was 33 years of age. She was a member of the U. B. church at Mt. Zion and was a true christian woman highly respected and beloved in the community in which she lived. She was united in marriage to John Mat thews eleven years ago and to this union were born two children, Bernice now Sulv ofage and Ward who is 2, who with their father survive her. She also leaves two sisters, seven broth ers, two half sisters and three half brothers The services will be held at the U. B. church today at 2 p. m. with Ray. Schoonover in charge and intermert will be made at Walnut Hill.
