SP/4 Johnny C. Lawson, 21, who is serving with the U. S. Army in Viet Nam, has recently been promoted to Army Spe cialist 4th Class. He is the son of Mr.and Mrs. Henry Lawson of 3559 Michigan Avenue, Hyde Park. Lawson graduated from Courter Technical High School in 1966 and entered the Army in March of 1967, where he com pleted boot camp in Ft. Jacke son, South Carolina and onto Ft. Gordon, Ga, where he completed a 12-week communications cen ter specialist course at the Army Southeastern Signal School. He was trained to oper ate teletype sets and other com munications equipment. He arrived in Viet Nam in October of 1967 and is now in the city of Nha Trang, a city off the South China Sea with the Come pany A, 54th Battalion where he works in the Communica tions Center there. His wife, formerly Barbara Meguire, is now living at home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Meguire in Mulberry, RECEIVES MEDAL VIETNAM Master Sergeant Walter E. Scott, son of Mrs. Martha E. Foerderer of 2816 Minot Ave., Cincinnati, has re ceived the U.S. Air Force Com mendation Medal at Tan Son Nhut AB, Vietnam. Sergeant Scott, a maintenance control technician, was decor ated for meritorious service at Langley AFB, Va. He was cited for his professional skill, ini tiative and dedication to duty. The sergeant is a graduate of Kings Mills (Ohio) High School. His wife, Beatrice, is the daughter of Mrs. Nannie Brunk of Miamiville, Ohio. The sergeant’s father, Walter C. Scott, lives at 61 Suncrest Drive, Lebanon. John W. Goldsberry, son of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Golds berry of 6721 Lindaway Drive, Milford, has been promoted to airman first class in the U.S. Air Force. Airman Goldsberry is an aircraft mechanic at Cars well AFB, Tex. He is a member of the Strategic Air Command. The airman is a 1967 graduate of Milford HIGH School. His wife, Donna, is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Ramsey of 12 Rainbow Trail, Milford, AT KEESLER AFB William R. Everhart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde W. Everhart of 488 Mainstreet, Williams burg, has completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Tex. He has been assigned to the Air Force Technical Training Center at Keesler, AFB, Miss., for specialized schooling as a communications electronics specialist. Airman Everhart is a 1965 graduate of Williamsburg High School. He is married to the former Cristie Liming of Ham ersville. COPTER REPAIRMAN Pvt. Clarence W. Hitchcock Jr., 20, whose father lives on Route 3, Inez Avenue, Bethel, AMMO SPECIALIST Sp.4 Kenneth W. Ohmer, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Ohmer, 13 Laurel Street, Milford, recently participated in “Operation San Angelo” in Vietnam, near Vung Tau. A member of “Task Force Schrack,” he and other sold iers of the 148th Ordnance Com pany supported the 1st Airborne Division in carrying out search and destroy missions near the Cambodian border, Spec. Ohmer is an ammuni tion storage specialist in the company. IN THAILAND Airman 1/c Paul A. Needels, Son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Needels of 119 Lang Drive, Amelia, is on duty at Udorn Royal Thai AFB, Thailand. Airman Needels, an electron ic equipment repairman, is a member of the Pacific Air For ces. Before his arrival in Thai land, he was assigned to Bergstrom AFB, Tex. The airman, a 1962 graduate of Amelia High School, attend ed Michigan Technological Uni versity, AIRMAN RECOGNIZED A/IC Ronald L. Ingram, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold N. Ingram of 1204’ Tuscarora Drive, Loveland, has been rec ognized for helping his unit earn the U.S. Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. The airman, a jet engine me chanic in the 437th Military Air lift Wing at Charleston AFB, S.C., will wear a distinctive service ribbon as a permanent decoration. The unit was cited for achieve service during a one-year period. This is the second time the 437th has been so honored. Factors which led to the unit being named for the award in clude development of a highly responsible airlift. organization which maintained vital airlift routes essential to the United States’ overseas commitment to the free nations of the world. Airman Ingram, a graduate of Loveland High School, attended Eastern Kentucky State Univer His wife, Melody, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Stamm of Rt. 2, Loveland, COMBAT TRAINED Marine Privates David A. Mearns, son of Mrs. Walter L. Mearns of 18 Iroquois Drive, Loveland, and Daris W. Nickels, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nickels of Washington St., Chile, completed two weeks of training under stimulated combat condi tions in the fundamentals of day and night patroling, employment of infantry weapons, survival methods and assault tactics at Camp Pendleton, Calif. This individual combat train ing is given every Marine after his graduation from recuit training. Taught by combat ex perienced non-commissioned officers of the infantry training regiment here, it prepares the young Leatherneck to become part of the Marine air-ground combat team. From this course they are scheduled to go on to more advanced training before being assigned. OUTSTANDING TRAINEES Jerry W. Powers, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil H. Powers, 1366 Wade Rd., Milford and William Martin, 20, son of Mr., and Mrs. Adam G. Martin, 4589 ; Owensville-Batavia Pike, Bata via, were promoted to Army private pay grade E-2 upon completion of basic combat training at Ft. Benning, Ga., Feb. 16.
