RK. J. ROSS DIES AS RESULT OF HORRIBLE INJURIES—DE TAILS OF TRAGEDY, About 41:30 (Tuesday afternoon R. J. Ross died from the shock follow ing the fearful accident which tore off his left leg below the knee. As Stated in Tuesday's issue, he was given prompt attention. The surgeons found it necessary to amputate the limb above the knee, but Mr. Ross passed away soon afterwards. His right leg was also broken and he was injured about the head His son William's right leg was broken above the knee, instead of below as re ported Tuesday. Just how the accident actually oc curred will never be known. Mr. Ross and two sons were operating the improvised omy puller, a stump being used to fasten the lever to and wind the cable round. William Ross was keeping up with the movement of the lever, scotching it with a crow bar when the strain was sufficient to slacken the spe of the horses. When the beam suddenly broke Mr. Ross was thought to have been step ping across the cable. it is believed that the flying piece of wood struck him from the fag breaking the bone in the leg and driving it back against the suddenly relaxing cable, which completed the bloody work of tearing off the leg and hurling it away. The severed member was found about 150 feet from where Mr. Ross was standing. his son, who was close against the lever , the end which fastened on the stump, was wel | with such awful force and es caped with less serious injuries. Terrible as his suffering must have been Mr. Ross did not lose conscious ness for a time. He called to another of his sons who was driving the team, to bind his severed mem ber and stop the flow of blood al though it is said that he suffered considerable loss of blood before this..could be hone. When, others came to carry him to the house he was more concerned about his injur ed son than about himself. The News phoned to the house on hearing of the tragedy and was told that it was thought he would recover, but it was only a short time until he lay life less. This tragedy io caused a great shock to the entre community. Mr. Ross had lived here almost from the beginning of the town’s history, and no man stood higher in the estimation of the public. He was one of the best known contractors of this section and many of the best buildings of Ada were erected by fhim, for his well known integrity was a strong guar anty of his good work. He was a loyal member of the Masonic and Odd Fellow fraternities and he lived up to the teachings of these orders at all times, which in itself is a strong proof of the fact he loved his fel low man and lived according to the Golden rule, probably take place] Thursday, it be ing expected that his brothers liv ing in Texas will arrive by that time. The funeral interment will Carriton Weaver home at Tulsa this returned to his morning.
