Funds services for W. C. (Uncle Dock) Joy, 91, who passed away Monday at 6 a. m. after three weeks illness at his home in Roosevelt, were held from the Presbyterian Church in Roosevelt Tuesday at 2 a. m. with the Rev. Louis Pearl, London Congregational Methodist minister, officiating. The Hodges Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. Burial was made in Cedar Hill Cemetery Mr. Joy was born near Little Rock, Arkansas, Nov. 17, 1856, and came to Texas with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Joy, settling on Johnson Fork of the Llanos in 1860. A brother Emery was attacked by Indians but stood them off with his slow but trusty single shot. An aunt and grandmother were killed bY savages near the present site of Harper. “Uncle Dock,” one of the last of the Kimble pioneers, was a mem ber of the Methodist Church. He was married to Mrs. Alice Adams Smith, May 3, 1878. For a few years after their marriage the couple made their home in London. Later they purchased a ranch west of Roosevelt and moved there. A large family blessed this union. Five children preceded him in death. Survivors include the widow; one daughter, Mrs. Marion Adams, Son ora; four sons, Artie, Sonora, and Cash, Dave and Meredith, Roose velt; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Ella Lyles, Bakersfield, California; and one step-son, Wiley Smith, Bur net. Pall Bearers were eight grand SONS. Honorary pall bearers were Al fred Sykes, J. A. Parker, Berry Baker, J. P. Riley, John Lowry, Al bert Owens, Bert Rode, E. V. Van derstucken, Aichie Garrett, Otto Thiers, W. O. Dickerson, John Mar tin, J. C. Graham, C. W. Fox, Joe Gardner, Jim Ragsdale, August Simon, Arthur Stewart, Y. P. Hill, John Fish, B. W. Hutchison, Asa Hallam, Odie Wight, George M. Pearl.
