W. WellsMrs. Samantha Scott Wells was born May 4, 1830, in the state of New York and died at her home in Laurens February 2 5, 1915.With her parents she moved to Ohio when a child. She was married to George W. Wei Is September 9, 1847. To this union ten children were born—six girls and four boys of whom nine are living. -She was converted at the age of sixteen and united with the Baptist Ghurch. Since 1866 she has been connected with the Methodistchurch. With her husband she moved to Illinois, moving from Illinois in 1866 to Iowa. Mr, Wells, her husband^died in 1882. She has been’living in Pocahontas county since 1883 and in Laurens since 1890.During her widowed life she has been interested in the welfare of her friends as well as in-the rearing of her children. She was a true Christian and beloved by all who knew her. To a large circle of relatives and friends she was lovingly known as “Grandma Wells. ”Besides thrity-five grand children and forty-five great grand children-she leaves nine children, John H. Weiis Shenandoah Iowa; Geo. E, W^lls Laurens Iowa; Sarah Macom-ber Waterloo Iowa; Elia E. Aurin-ger Cadalac Canada; Samuel S. Wells Wright Minnesota; Martha J. Smith Laurens; Vianna E. Proctor, Kingfisher Oklahoma; Libbie M. Scarsdale, Montague, Florida; Florence G. Mather, Sioux Rapids. The eldest, Ira L. Wells preceded his mother by a few weeks passing away at his home at Montour, Iowa January 31, 1915.The funeral was held from the Methodist church Friday afternoon and was conducted by the pastor Rev. Gerkin. She was buried in the Laurens cemetery.Mr. BobMr. Bob, the two act high school play put on last Friday night was all that it% was advertised and then some. It was fun provoking from start to finish and»all the parts were cleverly presented from the mysterious Mr. Bob to the mysitfied and versatile Mr. Brown who was forced so often to look for “that nephew’’.
