Impressive Services at the Holy Cross Church—Father Angelus Officiates. Yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock the corner stone of the new Holy Cross church, corner of Ross and Elizabeth streets, was laid with impressive cere monies. Father Angelus, of the Franciscan Order, officiated and was assisted by Father Columban, who is a member of the same order, and the Rev. Father McNamee, of St. Mary’s church. When the stone had been‘set in place Father McNamee preached the English sermon, bringing up the history of Po ple had been down-trodden and abused by the nobility. But there were two things which the people would never give up, their faith fulness to their country and the church. Nobility could take away all but these. He also spoke of the manner in which the people responded ‘to all the ageds' of the church and in the present case, the liberal manner in which they sub scribed to the new structure. Following Father McNamee’s ad dress, Father Pawlowski, the pastor the Holy Cross church, delivered the Polish sermon, bringing the to a close. The affair was largely attended, all the Catholic societies being present in a body, accompanied by a band. The new church is a brick structure with stone trimmings and is being erected at a cost of $18,008. Chas. Wallace drew up the plane and Victor Ahlvin is in charge of the oven first of October. Rev.
