The four sons of Mr. and Mrs. George Echter are all florists, presently located inSibley, Denver, Colo. Encinitie Calif. msGeorge Echter started the Siblev Greenhouses in 1923 growing and sell ing plants cut flowers, bulbs bedding plants, vegetable plants, lawnproducts and nursery stock. A small nursery for growing stock was located on the North half of the block where the Christian Reform Church is located In the first years of operation the sales office also included a radio sales repair shop jointly managed bvEchter, Norman Barnes Gowen.George Echter managed the florist business until ill health forced his semi retirement in about 1946. His two sonsJim Don then continued operation as partnership. In 1953, they purchased the Le Mars Flower Shop in Le Mars and they continued as partners withJim managing the Le Mars shop and Don staving with the Siblev shop anc greenhouse.In 1958 Jim and Don sold the Le Mar;shop and dissolved their partnership.Jim then moved to Denver and later tlt; Encinites. Calif, to continue in floris business as a grower and wholesaler o carnations.Don continued as sole owner o: Sibley Greenhouses and in the same vear moved the old shop to the rear o!the property and built a new floris shop joining the old greenhouses. Dor has continued operation as in pas vears but has added more gift item; and permanent arrangements. He ha; been a selected member of Florists Transworid Deliverv Association for almost twentv five vears and is a member of Society of Iowa Florists.Don has been assisted in business tr his wife Lavonne and members of hi; family, as well as one full time em ployee, Peg Kitzrow who has beei with the shop for many years, several other past time workers needed.Courtesy of Don Echter
