Another name is stricken from the ever lessening roll of our old settlers as we record the death of Mr. Walter McKay, which occurred on Sunday morning at his residence after a long illness. The late Mr. McKay was born in Zorra, Ont, 71 years ago and came to the west in 1881, settling in Silver Creek, where he was a suc essful farmer until 18 years ago when he moved to Russell, where he has since resided. When Silver Creek Municipality was organized the late Mr. McKay was appointed Secretary Treasurer, a position he held for 39 years and he was probably the beast known and most highly esteemed citizen of the district. The funeral was held on Monday from his late residence to the Russell cemetery, the service being conducted by Rev J. Hunter, of Binscarth in the ab sence of Rev. Mr. Middleton. A large number of friends and old time as sociates attended. He leaves his widow: four sisters Mrs. A. J. Long and Miss McKay o Winnipeg; Mrs. McDonald and Mrs Meadows of Ontario: two brothers Mr. Hugh McKay. of Winnipeg and Rev. J. B. McKay a missionary in India: four daughters. Mrs. B. Mc onald and Mrs. Fyke. of Septre Sask.. Mrs. Craig, of Winnipeg and Mrs. C. McLennan, of Cracknell: four sons. John A., of Angusville. Murray and Hugh of Winnipeg and James of Chiego. The pall bearers were Messrs. John Switzer, W. Chittick, W. McFarlane PD. C. Stewart, John A. McDonald and Ich. McIntosh.
