Jacob T. Nancy, one of the pioneer citizens of Spencer county died at his home west of Rockport last Sau rday, July 27th at the advanced age of 78 years. Mr. Naney’s last illness was of short duration, being ill but little over a week. He fell from a hammock which brought on conditions that caused his death. _ Deceased was a son of John and Eleanor Nancy and was born Dec. 10th 1827 on a farm two miles south of Rockport which is now known as the Harvey farm. Later with his parents he removed to the farm near Shiloh which was his home continuously thereafter until his demise. _Mr. Nancy was married to Miss Lucy Burdick of near Grand view and they were the parents of twelve: ‘Children, the mother and seven of ‘the children having pre ceded him in death. The five re maining sons and daughters are Americus and Jesse of near Rock port, Mrs. Leona Ensor of Para gould, Ark.. Mrs. Nellie McGuire who lives in the country and Mrs. Mable Morris of Evansville. Mr. Nancy was a soldier in the Mexican war and had not yet attained the age of twenty one years when he was dis charged. He was a home guard in the civil war and fought in the battle of Panther creek. Funeral service was held at Shiloh Shurch Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by the pastor, Rev. Edwin Shake followed by in terment in the cemetery there.
