William J. Sohl, president of the Alpine TV Cable Co., Inc., yesterday announced that construction has started on the new TV cable for Alpine which will cost $102,000. Construction is to be completed about the middle of September, he said.The new TV cable system will bring .subscribers five TV channels and 4 FM radio channels,Sohl said. All three TV networks will be included. The TV stations to be on the system are KOSA-TV, Odessa, Channel 7 (CBS),KMID-TV, Channel 2, Midland (NBC), KTSM-TV, El Paso.Chnnel 9 (NBC), KVKM-TV,Monahans, Channel 9 (ABC) and KVLF-TV, Alpine, Channel 12.The radio stations to be included on the cable will be the FM stations from Odessa and Midland and the AM stations from El Paso and Ojinaga.The head-end of the new system will be on the top of Bullfrog Mountain east of Alpine and just south of the highway 90—ihgii^ay 67 Y. Exhaustive testsby engineers have shown that this location provides a better picture than the Twin Sisters location, as there is a straight clear shot toward the transmitting stations without any mountains between, Sohl said.The road to the top of Bullfrog Mountain has already been completed. A 10 ft. by 12 ft. steel building, completely insulated. will be built at that point for the head-end equipment. Ic will have a heat pump installed to maintain the electronic equipment at the most efficient operating temperature. All antennas will have electric heating equipment on them in order to provide uninterrupted service during ice storms.Surveying has been completed and poles are in transit for the new power and transmission line which will join the WestTexas Utilities system at the city limits at the northwest corner of the cemetery. This line will be a 7-mile long 7200-voltsystem.Inside the city the system wili include 21 miles of trunk and sub-trunk system, all completely new and with the latest andmost efficient electronic equipment.
