Competition was keen at the recent 12th annual Hershey Invitation Senior Drum and Bugle Corps Contest where five corps per formed before a record audi ence of 12,000 in the Hershey Stadium. Enthusiastic applause followed each performance of the visiting corps as they performed with smoothness and precision. Contest winners were the Yankee Rebels of Baltimore, Maryland with a score of 87.80. The Buc caneers of Reading placed second with a score of 87.066. Last year’s winners, the Pittsburgh Rockets, capped third place with a score of 86.566; the Hurricanes of Sheldon, Conn., had fourth place score of 82.35; and fifth place was awarded to the Black Knights, Sala manca, N. Y., who scored 76.98 Awarded a trophy for their exhibi tion performance were the Belles of St. Marys, an all girl corps from Gloucester, New York. The Hershey Chocolatiers, co-sponsors of the con test and host corps for the evening, also turned in a fine exhibition per formance. Chief judge was Robert Brady of Pittsburgh; the other eight judges were selected from Maryland, Dela ware and New Jersey. All were mem bers of the All American Judges Association. Tabulators were Ronald Goodman, John Schucker, Donald Saylor, Carl Mease, Harry Zimmerman, Gilbert Jones and James Baxter. Members of the contest committee were Ray Sosliday, chairman; Fred Kleinfelter, vice chairman; Donald Dissinger, secretary; Richard Stoner, treasurer; Carl Deimer, program advertising; and Kenneth Greene, tickets. Publicity and ad vertising for the contest were han dled by Kenneth S. Oxenreider.
