Santos Sotollo.Concerning the capture of noted huiulit, now an ininnto of our county jail, the Lna Angeled Star of the 10th inst* says:The last member of a desperate gang of liorso thiovoa, stage rob-bers and suspected nnirclerofs— Santos Sotcllo—has at lust fallen into tho clutches of tho law, and will doubtless do tho State sumo labor for the next few years of hia life. Sotcllo is a half-brother of the notorious Chico Lugo (now in San Quentin), and tho two, in company with Jose Tupiu (also in tho State Prison), liavo carried on high handed depredations in this and adjuiniiig counties for over a year past. Tapia was the lirst to bo captured, and was tried for complicity in the robbery of the New hall stage, which resulted in his convict ion. A short time after the brothers were tracked to a canyon in the Han 13cr-uimlitiu mountains, where Chico was captured, Santos being unrecognized by the nUlcers by reason of having shaved off his shaggy heard. Although Chico was almost certainly known to have been guilty of murder, ho was allowed to pluad guilty of robbery,THIS CIIAROJC OF MURUKH Being deferred until bis term of sorvice expires. Mia two companions in custody, Santos has ted the life of a solitary outlaw for the past two or throe months, keeping well clear of the ollijors soul in pursuit, and undoubtedly aided to n considerable extent by friends and sympathizers sinning his eoiinlmncii. Un Friday Inst while riding in the mountains near L'lizaboth'Luke,It A FA If I. l.Ol’KZ,A young Californian, espied a horse hitched to some bushes quite a little di»tunco ahead of him, und a closer observation showed the form of a.man lying in tliustade of a true quietly smoking a cigarette, Lopezrecognized the outlaw at once and quietly made pro pa nit ions for his cap Lure. Leading his own horse into a clump of bushes and securing him, Lopez softly crept towards the robber, kcoping tho tree on a line between them until be bad approached within a few steps, when iio suddenly presented the muzzle of a sux-shuulur at Sotcllo's head, demanding a “throw tip,” which was responded to with great nlacjity. Securely tying his primmer, Lopez brought him lo Klr/.ulmtli Lake in triumph. After a preliminary ox-ll’i'| ainiiintion before Justine I’uWrll, he m- - was io»tiiinittolt;l In await the notion l,v j of the Ci rand •luiy. lie was brought lo this city yesterday and lodged in the County Jail. Several suspicious murders—notably that of young Kecg at 'l’chncapi Inst .March—have occurred in the vicinity of the op orations of the worthy trio, but an yet no positive evidence has beau secured against them. Santos bids fair to meet his former confederates in a very short lime.
