Algeria Republican and ! t the Advance Take Liberties With the 1 Deputy and Bring Ridicule Upon Him. jDeputy Game Warden Pooch of Cres-co township had official business in Burt last week and some little incidents of the visit were seized upon by the Burt Monitor and the Algona Republican and the Advance to take liberties with the Deputy and bring ridicule upon him. As stated by the Courier, Mr. Pooch went up there and by a high ■older of detective intuition he apprehended three violaters of the fish law and had them fined S18.75 each. Then to show that there was no malice in his •act but simply a loyalty to law, Mr. Pooch indulged in a little beer with the boys, and on that account he is exposed to public ignomv by the papers mentioned. Here is the way the Monitor •speaks of a deputy state officer.Deputy game Warden Pooch of Algo-doubt long remember his visit to Burt Monday. After the trial of his victims he yust wanted to spend a little money with the bo vs” and started out on the high roller plan. His peaceful slumber, late in the afternoon, was rudely awakened, and as our citizens are extremely courteous he was assisted m his effort to get together and get out of town. Too much consumption of slough water had unnerved lum.The Republican and Advance went still further and said he got drunk and in turn was arrested, brought before the mayor and fined $5 and costs. The Courier heard the same story upon which the Algona papers based their remarks, but it did not credit the story, knowing that Mr. Pooch could not so far forget his personal dignity and the dignity of his office as to get drunk and fall asleep in a barn. The Courier advised Mr. Pooch to bring a libel suit against each of the three papers, but he being a man of peace and very much averse to Iigitation, he has contented himself with their promise to retract.The Deputy tells us that he drank but three glasses of beer, and everybody knows that that amount would have no very noticable effect on an -able bodied man. But Mr. Pooch admits that he became very sleepy after the drinking, and strongly suspects that :Some sleeping potion was put in the beer. If such is the case the Courier has no language severe enough to een-•sure those Burt companions of Mr. I Pooch. He admits that he was brought before Mayor Dehnert by the marshal, but the Mayor, just magistrate that he is, saw no cause for imposing fine on the deputy, and thus ended the episode. AW those papers that did Mr. Pooch •such an injustice ought to make humble apologies.
