Flanagan. expects reception in a 100-mile radius of Bluefleld.The permanent antennae, which ia now under construction on the tip of the cliff, will reach as far as the eastern seaboard, giving reception in cities such as Norfolk. Richmond and Charlotte, N. C.The temporary tower will be used while construction work is being completed When completed. the tower will stand 125 feet above the cliff on which it willbe located.A powpr line already has beenrun to the FM transmitter by the Appalachian Electric Powercompany.Scheduled programs to be inaugurated next week will run from not less than 9 a. m., to 9 p. m.. Flanagan said. Local sporting events will be broadcast and local talent shows will be presented Id addition to national progiams.The programs will originate in the present studio of WHIS onCommerce street. . .The staff will be increased byabout five persons, including three new engineers and the control room at the Commerce street studio will be modified to take care of the FM station.Already approximately 3,000FM receivers are in this area and the new seta, most of them with both AM and FM reception, are available at most radio atores.Frequency modulation is a new, efficient method of broadcasting, with high fidelity reception. It Is noiseless broadcasting with no static or man-made intereference, Radio experts have said that if you hear FM you would not listento AM broadcasting.It requires both special new equipment for the radio station and a new type of adio set forthe listener known as an FM receiver.”FM has three major advantages over AM broadcasting.
