AltoonacIt will take a state agriculture (department hearing examiner iabout 30 days to decide whether a fstate milk inspector from Bloomer ewas “too tough” in enforcing state Grade A sanitary standards at Bloomer area farms. 11Nine Bloomer area farmers filed fa petition with the state early in iJune contending that inspector rRay Cress and his supervisor, jEugene Bautch, caused them to be cdegraded to Grade B because of itheir strict enforcing standards, t“He’s (Cress) just too tough,” one farmer complained.IThe nine are Frank Haas, Barry tDietsche, Merlin Pagenkopf, Wil- tliam Smith, Kenny Newton, Mike sProdanovich, John Hyke, D.A. tHuse and Le Roy Calkins. Most of the nine petitioning farmers have been degraded one or more times. Also testifying at the hearing was Dennis Pecha, who objected to Mr. Cress’ inspection methods. It took four hours last Thursday afternoon for all persons to exhaust their testimony in the hearing con-ducted by attorney Ralph Martinson of Madison, retained by the state agriculture department to hear the Bloomer farmers. Representing the agriculture department was Bill Hanson, administrator of the food division. The outcome probably will not please the protesting Bloomer farmers, inasmuch as Mr. Martinson said after the hearing was closed, “the testimony disappoints me. Wisconsin has the best market of any state in the nation. Our milk can go into any state mainly because of our strict sanitary codes. Yet, you people come here fighting the sanitation code. Frankly, after looking at some of these inspection reports, I wouldn’t want to drink your milk.”
