Appointment of Miss Catherine Rives of Brookston as the new field director of Amarillo Girl Scout Council was announced today by Mrs. Carl Cox, the commissioner. Miss Rives will arrive in Amarillo tomorrow from Paris, where she has taught in the elementary grades of public school the past three years During that time she has served as a volunteer leader of Brownie and Girl Scout troops and helped direct day camps. Her Scout experience includes overnight camping with Paris troops. In Amarillo, Miss Rives will re place Mrs. Dwight Parken, the former Estelle Burgess, who resigned as field director last September. Miss Rives will complete the local Girl Scout staff, working with Miss Ruth Minton, executive director, and Mrs. John E. Rogers, office secre tary, in the Scout headquarters, 605‘, Taylor. A graduate of North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, she has studied at Colorado State College in Greeley and Texas State College for Women at Denton. Last summer she went to Saltillo, Mexico, for specialized study in Spanish folk lore Miss Rives will work with both girls and leaders of the local Girl Scout organization, which is a par ticipating agency of the Community Chest.
