r Two Air Medals Presented Parents Of Young AirmenJohnny Lovin Presumed Prisoner in Europe, Dickerson Reported DeadTwo Air Medals were presented Saturday morning in a colorful military ceremony to parents of men who earned them in courageous bomb'ng raids over Continental Europe.One of the Air Medals went to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lovin, parents of Staff Sergeant Johnny Lovin, who is presumed to be a prisoner of war in Germany.The other went to Mr. and Mrs. William V. Dickerson, route 1, McAlester, *rhose son has been reported killed in action while over the European war zone. On this medal was three Oak Leaf Clusters, which designate outstanding performance and is a high decoration.Pyle Presents MedalsMajor A. F. Pyle, commanding officer of the 343rd College Training Detachment, presented the medals. Citations were read, followed by the detachment passing in review.On the medal presented Mr. Dickerson, each Oak Leaf Cluster represented five raids. This award represented 20 missions over enemy territory.Dickerson’s orders, awarding him the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster, were issued on July 15, 1943, August 25, September 25 and October 3, according to information received from the War Department.Wives Watch CeremonyThe medals were presented Mr. Lovin and Mr. Dickerson as their wives stood in the background and watched the ceremony.Before entering the army, Staff Sgt. Lovin was an outstanding football player on the Ada high school team and participated in other sports.Mr. Lovin recently received a letter from the pilot of the plane on which Johnny was a crew member. The pilot assured Mr. Lovin that he saw Johnny bail out of the plane. He also praised 1 Johnny highly for being a good crew member in addition to agood gunner. _ .
