DRAINING ANNIS SLOUGH-llimliont of Water ftesinft Wedneidaj' With [finny SueetBtor*.Quite a number of the farmers of the neighborhood were out at the Annis slough Wednesday last when the water was turned for the first time into the tile drainage ditoh just completed by 1 J, B. Swett of Boone, and M, P. * Weaver and C. A. Palmer were on 1 hand to represent the town. The end of the tile drain is twelve feet below the bottom of the slough, and a box lined-with 9heet iron was put in to carry the water down to the tile. It rushed down with such force that it5 crumpled the iron lining. Mr. Swett 1 said there was power enough there torun the Algoua electric light plant. The water was conveyed to the box by 1 a shallow ditch, which will be deep-6 eoed from time to time as the waterlevel lowers. Eventually the tile will be extended through the Blough, when It is drained, in various directions and the land reclaimed. The tile is1 10 inches. It Is said that it will take 5 at least thirty days to run the water oil. The water, at the end of the drain has overflowed the Hugh Herman grade, but the trustees of the township have been at work to get it out1 of the way. The water is to be carried I by tile drain through several farms and will eventually find its outlet in the Black Cat.
