Traber, an Army rifle man in World War II, survived hand-to-hand combat against Japanese soldiers on the Solomon Islands and in the Philippines. He was wounded twice in 3-1/2 years in the 145th Infantry Battalion, 37th Infantry Division. Traber’s new residence, the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville, has 160 beds in private and semiprivate rooms.
