Raborn-ToupsAMITE—Ashley Elizabeth Toups and James Jeffery Raborn, both of Baton Rouge, were wed in a recent afternoon ceremony at St. Helena Catholic Churchhere.Deacon Wil Toups, bride's uncle, officiated the double-ring rites, assisted by the Rev. Fred Youngs.The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. George Richard Toups of Metairie and is the granddaughter of Mrs. Milton J Bel of Amite and the late Mr. Bel.The groom is the son of Boyd Raborn and Katherine Hulsey Raborn and the grandson of Mrs. James Garvis Hulsey, all of Amite, and the late Mr Hulsey, and Ruby Raborn of Greensburg and the late Clehon Raborn.Readers for the wedding were Jamie Hulsey of Ponchatoula, groom’s cousin, and Malise Dauterive of New Iberia,Sarah Falcon, organist, accompanied soloist Gretchen Porche Jefferies of Dallas who sang the theme from “Ice Castles, “Can't Help Falling in Love With You, “The Wedding Song, and others. Selections rendered by trumpeter James Vale were Trumpet Tune” and Trumpet Voluntary .”The sanctuary of the church was decorated with three brass candelabra of white glowing tapers enhanced with tulle bows and assorted greeneries of tree fern, ming fern and gypsophilia. Two white columns held large arrangements of flowing ivy, and an assortment of green plants completed the altar settingLong, cascading bows of tulle marked pews, and the double doors of the church were decorated with full tulle bows holding camellias of various shades of pinkThe bride, escorted by her father, wore a gown of white silk brocade featuring a portrait collar and scalloped Schiffiii hand-pearled and opalescent lace The fitted bodice had a basque waistline, and the gathered skirt fell into a long, chapel train.Her cathedral veil of white silk illusion was attached to a pearl and crystal crown.She carried a nosegay of bridal white roses and gypsophilia backed with tulle bow and streamers. Along with her bouquet, and as something old, she carried her rosary in a handmade rosary bag, borrowed from a friend. Beth Warrington Veazey of Baton Rouge A pearl bracelet was a gift from the groom and her garter was blue.Beth Sherman of Baton Rouge was maid of honor Bridesmaids were Leigh Anne Bel of Amite and Baton Rouge and Mimi de la Houssaye of Metairie, both bride's cousins; Margie Minvielle of New Orleans and New Iberia; Shauna La Bauve Peterson of New Iberia; Becky Breaux Huval of Baton Rouge; Mimi Cazayoux Naquin of Dallas; Becky Barton of Baton Rouge and Patricia Mixon of San FranciscoBridesmaids wore tea-length two-piece suits of navy faille with fitted jackets enhanced with pearl and rhinestone-edged buttons. The jacket featured a soft peplum and a buttoned self-belt in the back. Each carried a nosegay of bridal pink roses and gypsophilia backed with tulle bow and streamers.The rice bag girls, who led the procession into the church, were Megan Bel of Amite and Chelsev Bel of Allen Park. The jacket was accented with a pale pink silk tab front and neckline. The pearl button front was topped with a pink silk rose and bow. JAMES RABORN ...The former Ashley Toupslined with double rows of pearl beading.Registering guests were Charel Hulsey of Ponchatoula and Hunter Hulsey of Amite, groom's cousins.Directing the wedding was Merrie Bennett of Baton Rouge, formerly of Amite.RECEPTIONThe reception followed at the Amite Community Center The hall was decorated in a Williamsburg Christmas theme with fresh holly, Christmas and ficus trees adorned with tiny white lights, magnolia and pine boughs, red poinsettias and wreaths of English ivy.The main table was decorated in a Williamsburg della robbia effect with greenery topped with fresh, whole fruits and nuts and centered with a footed crystal piece holding stargazer lilies, pink and white snapdragons, pink and white larkspur, alstroemeria lilies, pink roses and gypsophilia.Claire Anderson Bel, bride's aunt, prepared the wedding foods.The three-tiered brides cake was decorated with garlands, tassles and lace of buttercream icing Nestled between the layers and atop the cake were pink roses, alstroemeria lilies, pink larkspur and gypsophilia. Centered on the linen cloth, the cake was surrounded by the nine bridesmaids bouquets The cake knife was the same one used by the bride's parents in their wedding.The wedding toast was made from silver goblets given to them by the groom's mother.The groom's cake was a light chocolate basketweave icing, topped with chocolate-tipped strawberries.Louisiana Red of New Iberia played dance musicFor traveling, the bride wore a winter white silk suit with black patent accessories and a corsage of bridal white roses.Members of the house party were Tommy Hulsey of Amite and Mrs. Jimmy Hulsey of Ponchatoula, both groom's aunts; Mrs. Wilbur Toups Jr and Mrs. Larue de la Houssaye. both of Metairie, and Mary Toups of New Orleans, all aunts of the bride; and Mrs Tony Toups of Metairie, bride’s cousin,The couple will reside in Baton Rouge.
