by Jerrene Bradley QCS staff writer The Tucumcari chap ter of the Daughters of the American Revolution — recently presented awards to the essay winners for Constitution Week. Fifth-grader Jackson Rodgers was selected for his essay on “Forgotten Patriots,’ who supported the American struggle for Independence. Rodgers read his essay to everyone who attended the DAR luncheon on Friday. Rodgers said he searched on the Internet to find all the information he could for his essay and said that he kind of had a lot of fun doing it. When asked if he was going to write an essay for next year, he just smiled. Kyle Lease, a senior at Tucumcari High School, was given the Good Citizens Award for his essay. He received a flag, check and certificate at the luncheon. Lease said that he was very hon ored they had consid ered him for this award. The DAR presented Fred Porter, command er of the VFW, with 144 new American Flags. On Veterans Day 2012, VFW volunteers were putting flags on the graves of soldiers and ran out. There were a lot of graves that did not get a flag to recognize these sol diers, so the DAR was able to donate the flags to ensure all of the soldiers graves would have one. ar 3 ey. ie Go Painlessly with THERAGESIC.
