W. P. Hann, the veteran tailor, was seventy-nine years of age Wednesday, and spent the day as usual, plying his needle, sitting cross-legged and peg ging away at his place in the Dowden block on South Broadway. William Perry Hann was orn in the edge of Rush county, three miles northeast of Sandusky, February 4, 1835. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hann, moved to Greensburg when he was fifteen—in 1850. He learned the trade of tailor with Thomas Peters, and opened a shop of his own on the north side of the square, where the Fair store now is, 10 1857. Since then he has been almost a continuous resident. He conducted a drug store in St. Paul from 1870 to 1878, and was in Iowa a short time For a while he had a grocery store here, but for a half century he has followed his trade. He recalls that he and Josh Poo! attended the Old Seminary in the early fifties, when Professors Brewer and Conley were teachers. He says his friend, Josh, is much older than he (just three days) and can not remember things as he does. Scarcely a day passes but what ‘‘Bill’’ and ‘‘Josh’’, boys of the long ago, are found talking over old times.
