Funeral services for Mrs. Winnie Millicons Newell, circus performer who was found, dead in her trailer at circus winter quarters in York, S. C., Sunday, were held at Macon Tues day. It was reported also at Macon that York officers are holding ‘her estranged husband, Robert Newell formerly of ‘Macon without bond pending investigation of her death, ‘Guy, E. D. Rivers, one-time prose cutor of Austin Westberry, declined to intervene in his case Tuesday, and the prisoner was to be transferred to Tattnall prison to resume a life sen tence for a double murder at Valdos ta eight years ago. Westberry “had been free three and one-half years,as A fugitive. He surrendered last week. The victims were ‘Mr. and Mrs. W. H Browning, slain in a filling station robbery. Damage suits totaling. $120,000 were filed in superior court at McRae Monday against the Georgia, South ern and Morida railroad and Sam McVey,, as administrator of the es tate of Frank R. Kemp. All three suits grew out of a wreck at a rail road crossing six Miles north of Jacksonville, Ma., last April in which Mr. Kemp, his father, H. H. Kemp, a brother, Jas. R. Kemp and Miss Pear Kemp, were killed. Dan W. Johnson, 45, sheriff of Jen kins county accidentally killed him self with his pistol a few minutes be fore midnight Tuesday after attend ing the President's Birthday ball. Mr. Johnson is widely connected and has been a powerful business and po litical factor in his section. He was ‘formerly president of the First Na tional bank and later he ‘opened the Johnson distributing company at Mil len. The tragedy occurred at the Johnson home in Millen.
