Merritt crash claims life of Fairfield fatherA 35-year-old Fairfield resident and father of three was killed on Dec. 14 in a three-car, early morning accident on the New Canaan portion of the Merritt Parkway.Gregory Devos of Curtis Terrace was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred west of Ponus Ridge Road, according to a state police report.According to state police, Devos was traveling in the left lane of the west-bound side of the parkway at about 6:13 a.m., when a 1992 Range Rover that was traveling east crossed over the median and into the oncoming traffic. The Range Rover,driven bv 21 -year-old Charles A./ /Benzyk of Darien, landed on the hood and roof of Devos’ 1999 Saturn sedan, the report stated, and was propelled into the air. Devos’ car continued traveling west, and came to an uncontrolled stop in the shoulder of the highway, police said.A third car, a 1998 Chrysler Cirrus driven by Thomas Fardy,55, of Stratford, had been following a few car lengths behind Devos, then struck the Range Rover, the report said. The Range Rover rolled on top of the Chrysler, and came to rest on its roof in the right lane, according to the report. Fardy’s car continued westbound, and stopped after striking the metal beam in the median.Benzyk was taken to Stamford Hospital with internal injuries and Fardy was treated for head trauma. A Stamford Hospital spokesman said Tuesday that Benzyk had been discharged, while Fardy was still in the hospital and listed in fair condition.No charges were immediately filed in the incident, but an investigation was continuing, police said.Services for Devos took place on Dec. 16 from The Abraham L.
