To somewe.know thatjthe dark side has been turned; but, after all, there is a gleam of sunshine for all if we but look for it. We would not forget that a shadow has fallen upon the homes of some of our readers during the past year, and others are like the empty nest that hangs on the withered bough, desolate because the life and song went out with the birds. No life is all sunshine or all storm.Yes; there are many things in the past year that has made it very unpleasant—there are probably more things that have added to its pleasures if we would but stop and count them up. This old world is not so hard on us after all, there is usually a pretty fair balance between the pleasures and unpleasantries, between the sunshine and the rain.If the New Year brings prosperity, let us rejoice; if adversity, let us be brave, and in the year that is to come may you. all have an abundance for which to be thankful and may the pleasure and prosperity far outweigh the perplexities and the failures. The sunset gates will swing shut upon some of us ere the close of another year, and let us see to the record left on this side. If our dear ones and friends leave us for the summer land, let not the memory of harsh words spoken by us, add to the pangs of separation. We cannot keep back the passing years but we can and should keep the blessings they bring and the lessons they have taught; so as with one hand we shake farewell to the Old Year—1912—let us stretch out the other hand and warmly greet the New Year—1913.NO RECORD TO BE PUBLISHED NEXT WEEKOn last Saturday afternoon, Ezra luffman residing three and a halfAs has been our loog established custon we will not print the Record next week, but will devote tbe time to posting up our books and squaringwill appear, Thursday, January 2, ’13.
