Edward Thompson Many of our readers when they read this heading «will think that Mr. Thompson is dead, but we assure you he is the most lively corpse you ever bumped up against. Mr. Thompson was born in Ireland 82 years ago the 5th of last July. When he gave us his age we remarked that he ought to have been born one day earlier. He bubbled out with his Irish wit and replied, “If I had been in this country, I would.” Mr. Thompson is making his home at present with his son-in-law, Web Pryor. He was the proprietor of a crist mill at Solsherry for 21 years and ran a mill at Newark for 4 years. While in the milling business he had one customer, Joseph Whaley, that he ground 100 bushels of wheat for his use as bread each year. Mr. Whaley had a family of 16 children. Mr. Thompson weighed only 130 pounds, but at one time when in the mill business a customer brought a sack of wheat in what they called a constitutional sack. They placed it on his shoulder and he carried it out and placed it on the scales, it tipped the beam at even 3800 pounds. He looks in good shape to round out the century mark and his many friends join in the hopes that he may be per mitted to do so.
